Hi Folks,
OK a jar of jam tells me that it is 454gm. That is a pound, then.
My half ounce of baccy is 12.5g , though.
The petrol station wisely, for them, gives me a price per litre.
I may be a bit stubborn, but I have to go, Ah! that is so much a gallon, then!
Yet If I go to the butchers for a bit of minced steak, I must ask for so many pounds or ounces of it, otherwise he does not comprehend. Bless.
It must be awful for those at school, as in this "transition" my sons are aquainted with both.
"How long is a metre, dad ?" - er, about 39 inches, son.
As for coulombs, amperes, volts, at least we have some agreement.
Some standardisation for future generations, would you think ?
Happy new cubic metres on your gas bill.
(Oh - converted to Kwh, which used to be horsepower)
Bob.

We in Ireland were in a similar situation. We changed to kilometres in distance on our road signs years ago, but we still had speed in imperial. Now we are metric in speed and distance and we are not looking back. As for height and weight we still use feet/inches and stones (but not pounds). It is not going to be an instant process, but it makes a lot more sense for figuring things out like Body Mass Index, etc.

Here's to Games Workshop who still measure in imperial.
Metric is a pain not to mention a smoke screen (price of petrol?).
I remember the change when applied to fruit and veg, about 6 years ago, and the price rise that went with it.
