80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.

To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

The purpose of our modern lives SHOULD BE, to get back that which we have left behind!

After WW2 when Most of the modern world headed more towards an Ideology of 'Utopia' Major powers including Great Britain returned their 'colonies'. with a welfare state and REAL equal rights for all. Imperfect perhaps, but an attempt was made.

Unfortunately America on the other hand decided it was still OK to take advantage of ignorant and less fortunate people. To this day the cess 'pool' has become an 'ocean' that we're all drowning in!

This isn't the answer to your question, but it's where we're at.

I also suggest to as many people as I can that religion is a mental disease, and/or they are genetically driven towards illogical remedial faith drivel. Serves no purpose other than to enslave the mind!

Up until this point of my life I've decided the meaning of life is to Reproduce - Grow Fearlessly - Die.

I think the meaning to life is that we are here to serve God. We are also here to unite and become one huge family. One day on judgement day we will get an answer. Without God life makes no sense.

The meaning of life is that there is none. I'm sorry if you need more. I'm sorry if you must have an order to the chaos that we exist in. But the sad reality is that there is no greater purpose other than living up until you die. And if your only purpose is to live, than ensure that you live well. Be happy. Be content. And go to the clearing at the end of your path with no regrets.

Life – it has a meaning and loving purpose - you just have to find your purpose and live it.

I believe every person is here for a definite purpose. Each person is special and valuable; that refers to me, you, your family, friends, in fact everybody! There is a loving plan for each of our lives here on earth and there is no such thing as coincidence. I don't believe that anything in life happens by chance and that every aspect of our lives points to something deeper.

You need to decide now to live for God rather than for yourself. You spend your life on Earth preparing yourself (as best you can) for death. I don't see death as a scary, negative experience, but birth into a bliss filled eternal life with God. I believe that this is something you have to consciously choose or not during your life on earth.

The meaning of life is for us to discover that we are true children of an infinitely loving and merciful God, to find out what our responsibilities are to our Creator, and to fulfill those responsibilities. Each of us is called to affirm, accept and develop the talents God has given us. -

ah that's the 64 thousand dollar question, each person will answer differently from the next,so in that respect it has many meaning to each individual, some say to serve god, others to learn, and yet
others, there is no meaning to it all, just to be. personally its to grow
spiritually, and to share what little wisdom we gain form the path of life,so how er next generation have that little bit more than we did.

It's exactly what you make it. It's really just that simple. You get from life what you give. Give nothing, you should expect nothing. Do meaningful things and you won't have time to worry about the meaning of life.

I partially agree with the first answer, but I also believe we should try to win as many people over to God and His wonderful free gift of Jesus and eternal life as possible.

i am spiritual. i believe in God, according to my own beliefs we are here to worship God. He is not here for us, we are here for Him.

if u are not a spiritual or religious person u may not have a meaning to life other than u are here because u evolved here and that is the meaning of your life. which to me is hopeless and depressing. life is chaotic but it has meaning.all this (life)has got to mean something, our lives are so deep. we cannot simply just die and thats it.

its really all about opinions.
