This is a tale that seems to have been passed on from generation to generation. In my educated opinion it is not true. A hair can be pulled out from the root with no effect to the root itself except at times to weaken it. Pulling out a hair will not cause the root to split and produce more than one hair. I think the myth is perpetuated because often when you find a gray hair, you have come to that age when your body has begun the graying process and in it’s natural course more and more hair roots begin to produce gray hair instead of the former youthful color.

The saying is that you pull out a gray hair and two will grow back...And it is not true, of course.

Yep, old wives tale. I've never pulled out a gray hair, but I got 'em anyway.

2 grow for every 1 you pull out.

My DH was entirely brown haired when we got married (eloped haha) 7 years ago. Now he's 33 y/o and entirely gray. But it's not my fault!! *grin*

I always heard if you pull it out 3 will grow back in its place.

My aunt always said that gray hair is a sign of wisdom. She died with jet black hair.

2-10 will grow back, depends who you are going by. Its always funny because my sister seriously has 1 grey hair (she is 16) which dad pulled out, so we always tease that more will come back

When you pull one out two more grow in. Not true. I pull mine out all the time and only one more grows in.
