There are so many factors that go into determining the answer to your question. House size, house type, location, condition of the house, age of the house, neighborhood, seller need to sell. All things being equal a used house 2 or 3 years old it probably the best buy. That is assuming there is no artificial price bubble in the area you are looking at. Sometimes a house in an existing neighbor is better because you can see how the neighborhood "turned out." I have seen some cases where the homes in a new development are not as well cared for as you would have expected. We bought our previous house in a hurry because of time constraints involved a company move.
