As much as I dislike the French, they make damn good cars. I have never driven the 206 but have driven plenty of other Peugeot's and they are great. Renault Clio's are also fab as for the corsa i really didn't like it. quite unresponsive and the one I was driving was 1.8 16v. At the end of the day everyone is different I love vauxhalls just not the corsa, the best thing you can do is drive all of them and see which one you prefer. I am sure there are plenty of people that will tell you french cars are unreliable but I have never (touch wood) had a problem with any of the french cars i have had

Just for information, Peugeot 206 is ENGLISH, made in Coventry (or were until they stopped making the 206), Vauxhall Corsa is SPANISH and the Clio is FRENCH....... and as for all the adivice to buy JAPANESE..... all the mentioned ones are ENGLISH too!!!
I'd go for the Corsa, dirt cheap to run and repair and loads to choose from so should get a good deal. The pedaps are too close in a 206, that is true!

I say Vauxhall Corsa, because I have never driven a Renault or a Peugeot, and plus the Corsa I've driven has got good accerlation.

personally id go for the clio ,renaults are built to withstand french drivers (drive around central paris youll see what i mean !) ,therefore they should be pretty sturdy , i have a clio myself and i love it , had a renault 19 before that and a renault 21 before that .
i drove a vauxhall corsa once ,thankfully i have never needed to drive one since .
the pug 206 might be a good bet too but id still go for the clio

None of them get yourself a Peugeot 205 gti 1.6 or 1.9....cracking car to drive, handles like a go cart and is now serious retro cool...you should pick one up at a very reasonable price....look for a service history....
Out of the other 3 I would pick the corsa it's the easiest to drive.....the 206 pedals are to close for anyone with over size 6 feet to drive...you keep pressing the accelerator and brake at the same time...serious health hazard...
Clio nice little car and more comfortable than the corsa, but it's a lot more sloppy to drive....feels like you driving a cushion with big nobs....no fun.....
Here's a sweet little 1.6 gti... for £1500 on pistonheads...
if you don't like it you could easily sell it in the morning for what you paid for it....higly collectable car.....go on buy one I dare you.....I promise you'll be grinning from ear to ear after you test drive one....

Hi there,
It's fair to say that all of these manufacturers have their own good and bad points some more than others and in the end if bought second hand you will eventually have to dig into your own pocket to replace parts, this then depends on how well looked after the car was before you bought it, how often the car was used and how it was driven also is a contributory point, so take time to look around and check service history and even look for receipts for any work carried out.
Good Luck
