Exercise, eat healthily, drink plenty of water and avoid caffeine well before you intend going to bed. Turn off the tv etc and any bright lights, sit and read/relax about 30 mins before you go to bed. If you literally switch off the tv and go straight to bed your mind doesn't have chance to relax and "switch off".
Also, (as you mentioned you do have some stress), write down anything you need to do the next day/week etc... This eliminates thinking about what you need to do when you should be falling asleep.
Make sure your bedroom is completely dark.
Hope this helps x

Make sure your environment is DARK. The pineal gland in the brain makes melatonin, a hormone that helps you sleep. This is what helps babies sleep thru anything. As we get older we produce less of it. We must be in total darkness in order to produce it. So, turn off your night light, turn off the bathroom light, turn the clock away from the bed, put a dark curtain over the window, etc. This alone may be enough to help you get a good night's rest. If not, you can purchase melatonin in the form of sublingual pills (dissolve under your tongue) or capsules or tablets. Eat cherries as they are a natural source of melatonin.
Once you do all these things, if you are still having problems sleeping, visit your health food store. Buy a good book on health in general. Practice the simple stuff you have heard all your life like go to bed early, drink plenty of water, eat "right" (study to determine what the really means), get exercise earlier in the day. There are products other than melatonin at the health food store that might be helpful for you. Herbs such as valerian. Herbal combinations such as "silent night". Homeopathic preparations such as "Rescue Sleep" (it is wonderful). Sweet dreams!

I have the same problem - but mine has lasted for approx 6 years. I take sonodor tablets which are produced in Spain - the unfortunate thing is though that I find myself becoming immune to them so have to lay off them for about a week and then try again. I feel ssorry for you especially if after a sleepless night you then have to go and do a day´s work . The best of luck to you - I do hope that you find something soon. Hane you tried hynotherapy?

Exercise more. Exercise is a great stress reliever. Jog,run, walk.Just do something to drain your batteries a little more so your body will get the message. That's just one of a possible dozen things that you could try. However it's certainly one of the easiest to do without seeking medical attention or becoming dependent on medications to solve your problems. It's an Old school remedy.

imagine you are inside a lift, 100 floors and count slowly backwards until you reach 30th floor. Walk out the lift and imagine you are walking down a luxury spiral staircase in a very grand lobby hall. The next thing you know you should fall alsleep. Its sort of self hypnotise. Hope you sleep well !!!

Cutting out sugars and caffeine, getting fresh air and exercise, not doing anything else in bed (no reading, not TV) and possibly taking 1-3 capsules of the herb Valerian.

Cut out caffeine after noon, including sodas, watch the sugars in evening. Melatonin works very well and is natural.
