First you need a manual to tell you at which degree your timing should be set (timing marks are located on the harmonic balancer, which is attadhed to the front of the crankshaft. the indicator is attached to the timing chain cover) once you know what degree should be used, attach a timing light to the number 1 sparkplug which is the first wire at the front of the car on the driver's side. you must then loosen the distributor lock nut, start the engine, remove and plug the vaccume advance line on the distributor, with engine running at idol, aim timing light at the indicator and harmonic balancer. when timing light is on, you will se the timing marks (you cannot see the timing marks without the light) turn the distributor until a timing mark and the indicator align properly with the specified degree. good luck!
