You are right about the aliens they are far away and may be short lived.
Your question is pretty tricky but no,we have no proof they exist but their existence is so logical that they must exist.

To address your last statement first, you're assuming that, if there is life on other planets, their technology, at best, equals ours. While absence of evidence could mean evidence of absence, it could also simply mean that they don't have the technology to get here, or they've seen what this crummy planet has to offer and they're just not interested.....
