Good answer, also you can use Lime Away or CLR which you might have handy under your sink. Just allow it to sit for about an hour and wash it out

Fill the mug with warm water & drop in an Efferdent Tablet (denture cleanser) It works very well. I used to own a Manufacturing company, the guys coffee mugs & coffee pot always were a mess, but about 5 minutes with the tablet, clean as a whistle. Wash them afterwards.

Fill your mugs with warm water, and add some powdered dishwasher detergent to each. Mix and let soak for a while. Rinse and marvel at the results. Dishwasher detergent is the magic cleaner for all sorts of things.

You can use a Clorox(or similar) bleach with hot water, let stand a while, and then rinse well---but the best thing I have found is the cleaning tablets that you use to clean dentures with. Just dissolve them in your cup with hot water, let stand for a while and the stain disappears. Always rinse well.

Wash them out with Vinegar or Bar Keeper's Friend. Both work on stains....even for pots and pans.
