The influence came from Hollywood movie stars in the 1920's and 30's, where the brow was very thin and drawn out long.
The trend continued when women got older, and many older women still draw their eyebrows on. Unfortunately, they seem to use black no matter what their skintone or hair color.
The best method for grooming brows is to pick a shape that flatters your arch and pluck or wax the hairs. A good rule of thumb is to pluck no further in than a little past the inside corner of your eye. You can check by putting a pencil to either side of the nose straight up and down. The brow should end where the pencil tip goes past the outside corner of the eye when the pencil is held at an angle to the nose.
The whole point of shaping your brows are meant to bring more attention to your EYES, not your brows. You can help add to brows by using a pencil or eyeshadow that matches your brow color--but don't rely on the pencil to completely make your brows. Cartoonish is not the goal here.

Agreed. I think the whole drawing the eyebrow above the actual eyebrow line is to achieve a higher arch and get that pencil thin look they some women seem to be drawn to (pun intended). I think it looks cheap and unnatural. Its not a cute look.

This is one of my pet peeves!
Agh,since when is looking SURPRISED all the time attractive? I personally fill in my eyebrows to make them look darker, but the whole shaving them off is not cute. It's just tacky.
Imagine what they look like when they don't draw them in. YIKES!

I think it looks stupid and weird, too.
-Of course if they have unruly eyebrows it may be easier that plucking/waxing
-Shaving mistakes (haha) can also influence where they are drawn
-I think the main reason is they think it makes them look sophisticated because it draws attention to thier eyes and sometimes cheekbones

The first lady is now drawing them in even higher than last year, It looks terrible, and unatural. Someone should tell them that the Emperor has no clothes on.

I don't know why, but i think it's gross if you draw them all the way. one of my friend's has short eyebrows and she draws a tiny bit of them it looks really natural and it's not gross...well to me.
