is hormone replacement necessary for *transsexual* people
Yes.
is hormone replacement necessary for *transgender* people
No
if we stop taking HRT nothing really happens i mean for me a m2f TS id probly get hair growing back and thats pretty much it, my breast wouldnt go away i would probly stop producing milk, id proby get some of my hair to grow back on my body.
for a f2m if they stoped then it would probly just refemenize there body, unless they had already had the sex change operation and had there ovaries taken out.
Thats my best guess

I think your mom might have made a generalized statement to you. Does HRT have health risks. Yes they do. So do antidepressants that keep you from going insane from not transitioning. But if you look at a bottle of soda, it also says to "point away from face while opening, serious eye injury can result" Does this mean opening a bottle of soda is dangerous for everyone, no not at all. And as someone stated, I get a full blood work up every 6 months, I am monitored more now then ever. If their is any problems, my doctor will find it, and make adjustments as necessary. So in saying this, I have a better understanding of my health now then I ever did, and that fact alone will help me to live a longer life. I know a woman who self medicated for years, over medicated and now is on dialysis. I know women who have been on HRT for 20+ years, properly monitored by a professional, and well up there in age, and happy and healthy. The key to a healthy transition is a good doctor, proper monitoring of your health, and never self medicate.

its nessacary for people who want to go through with the sex change.
if they've already had their body parts that make their hormoans removed they could have a problem. the body will a lack of hormoans. I think with a lack of estrogen, bones begin to weaken. I don't know the negatives of low testosterone levels. but I know the body needs hormones, so any time they stop or decrease things about work right

I think it is necessary for many trans persons as it helps bring the changes they seek. I also think it makes long term brain chemistry changes that will not be reversed after stopping them. If you take hormones , you will transistion. They are one in the same..

Define "necessary". It comes down to what it takes for an individual to feel comfortable that their outside reflects their inside. it's about seeing yourself in the mirror the way you want to, and having other people see you that way too.

It's not necessary; however, if you want to pass it is. It's very rare that someone can pass without hormones.
All the advice I've seen is that you shouldn't start and stop. If you stop, you'll regress back. You'll also be wasting money.

without hormone supplements the transgendered person will lose the illusion of being the opposite sex. The surgical mutilation will remain but the hormonal illusion is banished.
