you're absolutely right - it's disgusting that people with some skills get paid so little when others with different skills get loads.

not anyone could do a carers job, you need lots of patience, a sense of humour, people skills, a strong stomach at times and loads more.

you do need qualifications as well, care homes etc. need a certain percentage of staff with nvqs now and they're NOT easy.

people who work in offices (for example) just have different skills - it's ridiculous that these skills are valued more in terms of monetary value.

i've worked in both areas, the caring one does at least have lots of other rewards x

I myself have carers in, and they do get paid a mere pittance for what they do. One of the last ones i had used to work at tesco`s a couple of years ago, and the pay far exceeded what she gets now. they do, do a worthwhile job and many people could not cope without them. It`s a shame that they have to tear their **** out all day and work unsociable hours to earn a semi-respectable wage. Give them what their worth, i say !

Its all to do with "incentive". Carer work is vocational, so incentive is already established. Some jobs require a big bung of bunce to make people want to do them.

Because it is simply a job that anyone can do without extensive experience .... and as it is antisocial, underpaid and emotionally exhausting, there are always lots of vacancies, hence the low pay scales. And we all know about foreign labour filling such vacancies, again hence the low pay scales. But to be fair, people who do this kind of work need to be admired!

Basically BECAUSE they care and the government etc. KNOW they'll still do it because it's a vocation so they can get away with it. Now if the gov. saw caring as vital to the economy then they'd be paid tons. Sad, but true.
