I want to get a lip piercing on the left side but my mom said no. My older brother got his done when he was 16 but my mom said I can't because it will "ruin my pretty face"(liiiiess) And I want to get dark purple streaks in my hair(I have dark brown hair) but she came up with basically the same excuse, "it will ruin my beautiful hair color"(again, lies) How do I get her to say yes to me getting my lip pierced when I'm 16 and purple streaks whenever? Please help.

My mom said yes to the non-permanent streaks first so i can see if i still want them and I do want the piercing. Not just because my brother has one but because I really really want it. And no, I don't care if u guys think it's ugly, it's what i want. Thanks for the people who actually helped.

p.s. Thanks to BlytheLyssa, heather d, and molly. And to Extemporaneous: Yeah, what are the chances that my face will become paralysed? 1 in 3 million? To sophialinae: No, I won't be sorry. I actually want the piercing and I can take it out for jobs.(besides, I'm gonna work at Hot Topic when I'm 16 and they allow piercings.) And to JL: I'm not dying all of my hair and I don't have blonde hair where when I put in purple it will screw up my hair color.( I have dark brown.)

Firstly, ask yourself if you want the lip piercing because you think it will look good, or because your brother has one. Belive me, if you really want one, you'll still want it when you're old enough to have it done without a parent's consent.

Secondly, dyes CAN ruin your natural color. When I was a teen, I wanted to color my blonde hair black, but mom called a few salons and they told her it was very likely that it would destroy my natural color and to get it back my hair would have to be stripped and there was no guarantee it would ever look right again. So, mom put me off on the idea until the phase had passed. I still want colored streaks in my hair, but temporary ones, so I'm looking for clip-ins that can be taken out when I don't feel like having rainbow hair.

You will be sorry if you get your lip pierced. I know 3 people who have done it and regret it! It will leave a scar when you grow out of this phase you are in. I don't think the purple streaks are a horrible request. I'm a very reserved person and I went through a phase as a young teenager where I did a few wild things with my hair. Does shaving the bottom half of my head count? :) I thought my mom was going to have a heart attack. Anyway, there are many things you can do to be unique ... just stay away from body piercings. : ) They have temporary hair dyes that you can buy. Ask your mom if you can try a wash out before you actually do the real deal. Maybe she'll see that it's not so bad. And maybe you'll not want to do it after you see what it looks like. Have a wonderful day!

You should consider that maybe your mother has a really good reason for saying "no"?

I don't see any problems with purple streaks, because they will wash out, or grow out, over time.

However - if you get your lip pierced, there is a chance that half your face will become paralysed, and that is something you won't grow out of. Of course, once you are 18, I am sure you can make this decision all on your own. Until then, you should listen to your mother.

Hate to tell you this but until you are 18 you're Mom is in charge of the rules in the household. However you could point out the fact that you're brother ruined his pretty little face?!? As for the hair color she again is head of the household. When you are 18 you can still choose to do these things but I doubt you will want to because you will soon realize that it's just a fad and a piercing you're face and hair color don't define who you are. You're mother is not lying to you she just think you are beautiful the way you came out!!

Well, I never got my lip pierced but, I had my stomach pierced and when they pierced it, he put that plain metal bar in, and I wanted to change it, but as he told me and they probably will tell you the same, if you take it out the hole may get lost, and you won't be able to put it back in. So it's best to leave it in for at least a month. It is very annoying also when you're trying to change the bar and you can't find the whole because you kind of digging around in your meat with this little bar. Try looking for some balls. They sell them in stores like Gadzooks, their about $6 fir two. You can switch the balls and its just like switching the bar.

Listen to your mom... you don't want to be a freak.

First of all, lip peircings are for boys... if you wat to look like a boy, that's a whole other deal.

Secondly.. purple hair? Do you want people to call you Barney?

The kind of person with purple hair and a lip peircing are the kind of people my friends and I turn and laugh at in the mall...

So, the question should not be "How do I get my mom to say yes to lip piercing and purple streaks? "... but "Am I ready to be laughed at in public over and over again every day?"

Are you?

I had to wait until I was 18 to do any thing I wanted to my body... but you can tell her that at least you can take it out in time and the hole will colse and volia your face will be fine... as for the streaks... You might want to ask her if you can put some red streaks in it instead... show her pictures of what you are thinking... and maybe compromise...

Ask for your beauty enhancements one at a time so she can get used to your new appearance. And start with the hair first since that is not as permanent as a piercing.
