Other than working for a broker, what advantages can a person recieve if they put the time in getting one?

You can make a commission from the homes you sell. Of course you will have to give your broker a percentage. You will also be able to to buy the homes that are going below market price should you ever want to invest.

For most people not much. It's very hard to make a living selling real estate. Most people wash out in less than a year. However there are other related jobs you can get. It's not that hard to get the license and if you want to try it go for it.
