i have a 1990 licoln towncar and it seems as if my trans mission doesnt want to shift into over drive it also drinks aaallllllloooooottttt of gas. can someone please help me in determining my problem

do you have a 6 cylinder or an 8 cylinder motor if its a v-8 that is why it's so thirsty

If the transmission isn't shifting into overdrive are you sure that you are putting the transmission selector in the D with the circle around it? If so then your transmission needs serviced. And yes running your car around not in overdrive will cause it to gulp gas.

When was the last transmission fluid changed? If the tranny isn't shigfting properly it will use more gas.

It could be car is in the limp home mode.Is your eng over 2300 rpm.Has anyone checked the trans. fluid or changed it?How is temp?Limp home mode trans stays in second .
