It is the year 2047. The planet Earth has been visited by extra terrestrial beings. They wish to peacefully live among humans, but they are having difficulty adapting to our units of measure. Instead od measuring time in seconds minutes and hours, they use alphas betas a gammas. Instead of using inches feet and miles they use deltas zetas and thetas. Your job in this furtiistic society is to act as an inter galactic public relations ambassador. Because of your extensive mathmatical education, your task at hand is to help out visitors in converting out units into theirs and vice versa.
Time units
1 beta= 50 alphas
1 gamma=50 betas
1 minute=1.5 betas
Length units
1 zeta=15 deltas
5000 zetas=1 theta
1 foot=0.7 zetas
1 mile=5280 feet
1 kilometer= 0.625 miles
convert the following-show work
1. 60 miles per hour to thetas per gamma
2.100 thetas per gamme to miles per hour
3. 50 thetas per gamme to kilometers per hour
4. 25 feet per second to thetas per gamma

Wow, cool problem, beats the heck out of two trains going opposite directions....etc.
I think the key equalities you need to work with are the two which cross the culture barrier: 1 minute=1.5 betas and 1 foot=0.7 zetas. Once you pull those out, you can see (for #1) that you need to convert miles per hour to feet per minute (because you know how to convert feet and minutes to alien units -- betas and zetas). Sixty miles = 60 times 5280 ft, or 316,800 feet. One hour = 60 minutes. So sixty miles per hour is the same as 316,800 feet per 60 minutes, or 5280 feet per minute (it's a nice coincidence that you're going a mile a minute, but it wouldn't work out so neatly if you were driving 50 mph!).
OK, so where are we? We need to convert 5280 feet per minute to thetas per gamma. But what we know how to convert to are betas and zetas!
We do know that there are 5000 zetas in a theta.
If 1 foot = .7 zetas, then 5280 feet = (5280) (.7) zetas, or 3696 zetas. And 3696 zetas = .7392 thetas (3696/5000). In other words, we've figured out that a mile (5280 feet) equals .7392 thetas.
We also know that there are 50 betas in a gamma.
If 1 minute = 1.5 betas, then one hour (sixty minutes) is (1.5)(60) betas, or 90 betas. And since 50 betas = 1 gamma, one hour (90 betas) equals 1.8 gammas.
So 60 miles an hour = (60) .7392 thetas per 1.8 gammas. Simplifying the equation, we get
44.352 thetas = 1.8 gammas, or
24.64 thetas per gamma
I think.
I'm sure there's a simpler way to do this, but maybe this will give you a way to start and find it.
When you get the answers, email them to me. I'm going to play with this some more when I'm fresher.

(1) If 1 mile = 5280 feet then 60 Miles = A feet
so, A= 60 x 5280 = 316800 feet
If 1 foot = 0.7 zetas
then 316800 feet = B zetas
so, B = 316800 x 0.7 = 221760 zetas
Now the second part of the same question 1 hour = 60 minutes, so 60 minutes = 1.5 x 60 = 90 betas
then 221760/90 = 2464 zetas per gamma
Answer: 2464 zetas per gamma
(2) 100 thetas = 5000 x 100 = 500000 zetas
And if 0.7 zetas = 1 foot then, then 500000 zetas = A foot
A= 500000/0.7 = 714285.7 feet
So if 5280 feet = 1 mile
then 714285.7 feet = B miles
B = 714285.7/5280 = 135.3 miles
now lets convert 1 gamme into hour
1 gamma = 50 betas and 1 minute = 1.5 betas
(1 hour has 60 mins) then
60 minutes = C betas
if 1 min has 1.5 betas then 60 minutes has C betas
C = 60 x 1.5 = 90 betas
so 90 betas = 1 hour then
D = 90/50 = 1.8 gamma
so 1.8 gamma = 1 hour
so 100 thetas per gamma = 135.3/1.8 = 75.2 miles per hour
YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO ANSWER THE REST OF THE 2 QUESTIONS... USING THE ABOVE WORKING...

The best way to do unit conversions is to write them as fractions with units, and make the units cancel.
60 miles/hour x (1 hour/60 min) x (1 min/1.5 betas) x (50 betas/1 gamma) x (5280 feet/1 mile) x (0.7 zetas/1 foot) x (1 theta/5000 zetas)
See how all the units cancel and you end up with the units you want?
So the answer is (60 x 50 x 5280 x 0.7)/(60 x 1.5 x 5000) = 24.64 thetas per gamma
That's all I have time for now...I hope you see how to do it.
Eh, I'll do one more for fun.
This one has the advantage that we just did it in reverse...you could "cheat" a little by using your last calculation like this:
100 thetas/gamma x (60 miles per hour/24.64 thetas per gamma) = 243.51 miles/hour
See how that works?
This is called "dimensional analysis" and it works for ANY conversion of any type.
The reason it works is because if you have:
1 mile = 5280 feet
Divide both sides by 1 mile:
1 = 5280 feet/1 mile
So really what you're doing is multiplying by 1 over and over again, but arranging the units so that they cancel each other.
I learned about this in college, and I don't know why they don't teach it sooner.
----
Steve W, I seriously doubt that google can convert miles per hour to thetas per gamma. :c) It's a great idea for REAL units, but doesn't work for fake ones.
----
I'm back, so I'll finish.
50 thetas/gamma x (60 miles/hr / 24.64 thetas/gamma) x (1 km/0.625 miles) = (50 x 60)/(24.64 x 0.625) = 19.48 km/hour
25 feet/second x (1 mile/5280 feet) x (60 sec/1 min) x (60 min/1 hr) x (24.64 thetas/gamma / 60 miles/hr) = (25 x 60 x 60 x 24.64)/(5280 x 60) = 7 thetas/gamma
(Just to double-check, I'll redo that one from scratch...
25 feet/second x (0.7 zetas/1 foot) x (1 theta/5000 zetas) x (60 seconds/1 min) x (1 min/1.5 betas) x (50 betas/1 gamma) = (25 x 0.7 x 60 x 50)/(5000 x 1.5) = 7 thetas/gamma...check!)

You have feet to zetas and minutes to betas as your common units. So you need to break everything down to these.
For #1 for example 60 miles per hour needs to be expressed in feet / minute
or
60 mile/hr * 1 hr/60 min * 5280 ft / mile
or
(60 * 1 * 5280 * mile * hr * ft) / (60 * hr * min * mile)
the hr in the top cancels out the hr in the bottom and the mile in the top cancels out the mile in the bottom
so you get
(60*5280*ft)/(60*min) = 5280 ft/min
now you can go from ft / min to zetas / beta
5280 ft / min * 1 min / 1.5 betas * 0.7 zetas / ft
or
(5280 * 1 * 0.7 * ft * min * zetas)/(1.5 * min * betas * ft)
cancelling minutes and feet
(0.7*5280 zetas)/(1.5 betas) = 2464 zetas/beta
Finally you need to go from zetas/betas to thetas/gammas
so
2464 zetas/betas * 50 betas/gammas * 1 theta/5000 zetas
(2464 * 50 * 1 * zetas * betas * theta) / (5000 * betas * gammas * zetas)
zetas on top cancel zetas on the bottom and betas on top cancel betas on the bottom to get
(2464*50*1* theta)/(5000 * gammas)
or (2464*50/5000) theta/gamma = 24.64 theta/gamma
60 miles/hour = 24.64 theta/gamma
Using this method you should be able to do the last three.
If you want to post your answers in additional details I'll tell you if you're right.
Now play nice.
