Why do people actually think that statements like these rationalize banning gay marriage?

- Well are we going to allow a 55 year old man to marry a 9 year old girl because they're in love?
NO. 9 YEAR OLD GIRLS CAN'T SIGN LEGAL CONTRACTS!
- That's opening the door to beastiality!
AGAIN.... COWS CAN'T SIGN, EITHER!

People have asked why it's fair that gays can't marry and these are actually some of the responses I have seen.
All men and women are permitted to enter legally-binding agreements; animals and children are not, so can't you put these ridiculous comparisons away once an for all?

Wow. I knew there would instantly be an idiot who'd rather call me insulting names than take in the question.
Think whatever you need to get yourself a good night's sleep, Bubbles.

While I agree with you, I think you need to look at what they're saying behind what they are saying.

Even though to you and I they are entirely different things, to such a person it is not. Marriage between two men is just the same as marriage to a child or marriage to an animal. And because these are exactly the same kind of thing to these people, they are treated in exactly the same way.

This can be very telling, actually. Someone who makes sexual advances to someone who cannot give consent (an animal or a child) is usually considered not just deviant, but outright sick. It doesn't take much fishing around to find what many would like to have done to people with such tendancies... suffice it to say it is usually horrible enough to make the tendancies themselves seem mild by comparison.

And this is how such a person sees someone who is gay. They see a gay person as the kind of sick person who drags all of society down with them.

This highlights the goal for the rest of us: To show that this is just plainly not so. Roll up your sleeves. It's going to be a lot of work!

I am not against gay marraiges. I think the main reason that the gov. wont allow it is because of the tax break they will recieve and the insurance coverage for same sex marraige. I personally don't see a thing wrong with it. If you are happy and aren't hurting anyone else in the process then so be it.
As for people useing religion as an excuse for ignorance the bible says to love everyone, and of course there is the golden rule " treat people the way you want to be treated."

I do not understand it either. I think homosexual people should be given the same rights as any and all heterosexuals. All I hear is how everyone is equal now. Blacks and Whites, Men and Women, but because your gay means your not equal? That makes no sense whatsoever to me.

All it really boils down to is that there are people in this world who instead of worrying about themselves, worry about what everybody else does, thus we have these moronic statements like that one you referenced.

Also, for those of you who are homo-phobic, I'm a straight male who is very much in love with my fiance.

I have yet to hear anyone come up with a logical explanation of why gay marriage is wrong. For the most part they usually resort to religion, obviously they are incapable of putting a thought together of their own.

I think the better question is, will gay marriage in anyway alter the way these homophobes live their lives. The answer is most certainly no it will not.

Well, if consenting adults want to commit to each other feel free to get a lawyer and draw up papers. Marriage is inherently religious. Religion created the institution called marriage. I'll respect the homosexual lifestyle as long as they respect my religious lifestyle.

Also, the Mormans have been prevented from legally marrying multiple women. Why are'nt the Gay marriage activists fighting for Morman's marriage rights as well?

Homosexuals were offered Civil Unions as a compromise to assaulting my religion. They turned it down. You can't have everything but I guess that does not apply to homosexuals. I don't hate homosexuals and would defend honest people, gay or not, with my life. However, they have to respect my lifestyle as well.

While i personally believe that a person should be able to do as they please, i also believe that part of a marriage is to procreate and 2 men or 2 women cannot do that without help from the other sex.
i have been told that isnt fair because under my logic that would mean that sterile men and women wouldnt be able to get married and i say that is different. anatomically they still have the parts required to make the baby.
i dont understand the desire to marry a person of the same sex but like i said, this is american and all people should have equal rights.

If they did that there would be no argument at all, and in this world where bitching is everything, that just wouldn't be right.
So rather than get along, ridiculous arguments are formed in order to further the tension.
