Are your fuses blowing constantly? Need more circuit space? I am asked this constantly by customers. If the answer is no to the above, why change it at all. Fuses and breakers do the same thing. I've lost business before by asking these questions, but the karma of honesty always comes back in $$$.

The cost of repairs is directly related to the location you are in and government regulations. In the cities with more codes, the price always goes up. I own an old home that I rewired a few years ago and replaced the fuse box with a breaker box. Since then I have added to sub panel boxes with breakers. If you can find an electrician who will work for labor only, get an estimate and buy the supplies yourself. The electrician can tell you how much and what to buy. I also suggest that you get a larger breaker box than you think you presently need as there always seems to be something that needs to be added later. I would definitely ask around to try to find an electrician that does quality work at reasonable prices. However, I agree that anyone doing electrical work needs to have the proper skills. Good luck.

There are alot of variables in answering your question. Starting with what size service you have and what you want to upgrade to. Most older homes that still have fuse boxes only have a 60 amp or 30 amp service. Here in Pennsylvania, the minimum upgrade you can do is 100 amp. Your best bet is to find a reputable contractor in your area and have them come out and evaluate your home's needs and give you an estimate. I also recommend that you get a minimum of 3 estimates for comparison.

You be specific please! Where are you asking from?
Or does the world orbit your nation?
Sorry but I see this assumption of locality a lot.

I am in Australia and i can get this done for under $300AU
For a house with a typical number of circuits. Say 3 for power and 2 for lighting as well as an RCD as main switch.

Have an electrical contractor come out to your house and give you an estimate. No one can give you an accurate estimate without looking at your present system first.

$810.00 for 150 AMP breaker panel with installation.

Installation includes breakers, wiring at the panel inside of the house and outside of the house through the meter and to the top of the house.
