Right now i'm working at a dental office training to be a dental assistant but I heard the hygienist's make more money? I also heard from one of the girls that work there that it takes 2 years to become a hygienist..is this true? I also heard that it takes 4 years? If it takes 4 years is there ANY WAY possible to be done in 2 years? Even if I was well networked & hooked up?

Both of them are right, you can get a hygienist degree in either two or four years (community college or four-year college).

To get it in two-years:
- Get an Associate's Degree in Dental Hygiene from a community college
- Take the National Board Dental Hygiene Examination and your state's license exam. Upon passing, you'll be a Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH)
-This is best-suited if you plan to only practice in a dentist's offices (which I think is what you want to do).

To get it four years:
- Get an Bachelor's Degree in Dental Hygiene from a four-year college/university
- Take the National Board Dental Hygiene Examination and your state's license exam. Upon passing, you'll be a Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH)
-This is best-suited if you plan to practice not only in a dentist's office but also in research or public health programs.

BTW, the median salary for a dental hygienist is $24.68 per hour (as of the year 2000).
