well, it sounds to me like he feels inferior to you with you knowing he is gay.Kinda like he is intimidated.So, I think he wants to say those things to make it look like he has possibly not always been gay.Like as if to say."well, I used to be with girls but chose to go with men in spite of it".I think he senses that you are a bit uncomfortable with the idea of him being gay so he wants to "appear" more normal to you.
