It's absolutely illegal to sell them. Giving them away is more murky. It does break copy right law, but no one is going to go after anyone for giving one CD to a friend. Selling them could quickly land you in a LOT of trouble however.

You can burn CD's for your own personal use, you are just forbidden to distribute them to the public without the consent of the artist.

When you purchase a CD, you buy 1 license to use it. If you make a copy, you can't use both copies . . only 1 at a time. You cannot share the copy with anyone.
The idea behind allowing you to make a copy is so that you may safely store the original.

You are permitted to burn c/d's. The only way it is not permitted is if you download them with out joining a site . most are usually one year at a time or buy thru a club where you pay for each individual song itself.

It is against the law to burn them without paying for them. Anything you are downloading like off of Limewire or anything like that is not legal.

new laws have been passed that give users the right to share music as long as:
1) the original track was bought by the distibutor
2) the distibutor does not make money off of the transaction.
