Osama Bin Laden the mastermind of the 9-11 attacks issued his fatwa against America because they built a military base on Muslim holy land and they had unquestioning support of Israel.

These are his reasons: This is text from the fatwa issued in '98.

1. "First, for over seven years the United States has been occupying the lands of Islam in the holiest of places, the Arabian Peninsula, plundering its riches, dictating to its rulers, humiliating its people, terrorizing its neighbors, and turning its bases in the Peninsula into a spearhead through which to fight the neighboring Muslim peoples."

2. "Second, despite the great devastation inflicted on the Iraqi people by the crusader-Zionist alliance, and despite the huge number of those killed, which has exceeded 1 million... despite all this, the Americans are once against trying to repeat the horrific massacres, as though they are not content with the protracted blockade imposed after the ferocious war or the fragmentation and devastation. So here they come to annihilate what is left of this people and to humiliate their Muslim neighbors."

3. "Third, if the Americans' aims behind these wars are religious and economic, the aim is also to serve the Jews' petty state and divert attention from its occupation of Jerusalem and murder of Muslims there. The best proof of this is their eagerness to destroy Iraq, the strongest neighboring Arab state, and their endeavor to fragment all the states of the region such as Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Sudan into paper statelets and through their disunion and weakness to guarantee Israel's survival and the continuation of the brutal crusade occupation of the Peninsula."

Because a bunch of religious extremists who can't tolerate the existance of other cultures decided that as the surviving superpower from the cold war and as a secular society, that we have to be punished for not being faithful to Islam, and for any and every attempt to stop them from forcing their brand of Islam upon other peoples of the world.

Osama hates the idea that we had military bases in Saudi Arabia to kick Saddam Hussein out of Kuwait, while totally ignoring the fact that these bases were there before he was born. He hates Jews, which is a bad enough problem in the ME even without extremists like him running around.

I'm not sure how intelligert this is,but if you want opinions...Here's mine. Because as Americans we are for the most part, trusting, honest, well meaning people who work hard and mind their own business with disregard for the color of a neighbors skin, or religion, or whether they worship AlliBabooo or ScoobyDoo! Hence forth, the "enemy" sees this as a perfect opportunity to come in, make themselves to home, take what is not theirs, and thank us by killing our brothers, sisters & children. Isn't that special?...So now, we're gonna just ship them TO them so they dont hav to come all the way HERE to do it!!!(sorry, but that's how I feel).

Dan, you ask a question that I fear you have already decided you have the answer to. Other than attempting to answer it anyway, the only other thing I want to do right now is ask you what you feel caused the terrorist to attack on sept. 11. I believe that the easiest explanation would be that the attacks were based in religion. But, anyone with an open mind and open eyes and ears can see that the truth is much different. The leaders of many of the middle east nations that harbor the various terrorist groups we are now fighting against use religion as a means of controlling people. Now, I know that at various times all major religions have used or been used by the ruling class or even a single person of considerable power to exert that power over the masses. I also know that this makes religion a very dangerous thing. On the other hand religion has been the catalyst in some of the greatest things man has ever accomplished, be it in art, medicine, or for that matter, politics. The United States is the finest example of the good that can come of a religions influence on society, as this nation was founded on the religious principles of a number of men who while all christians, were of widely varying sects of christianity. Our bill of rights is but one example of the religious influence on our nations founding fathers, for each article of it is nothing more or less than what these men believed their religion, and God himself, demanded that we acknowlede for one another as coming from Him, not us. This document worked mainly because it empowered people, much in the same way that the Koran can be interpreted to empower the poor starving people in helpless situations throughout the middle east. First the leaders highlight the differences between this nation and it's religion and their own, always taking care to make as many disparaging comparisons towards our as they can and blaming ours for all the problems they have. This establishes us as a moral and political enemy in the eyes of a people that will never have any other basis on which to judge us than those they are told by their leaders. Secondly, they use religion as a direct method of rewarding the "faithful", promising paradise in the next life for the sacrifices in this life, particularly if the sacrifice results in the defeat and death of us. Thirdly, they take over all aspects of daily life and decide on punishments for not following the will of the leaders and their interpretation of Gods words. It is a classic case of the carrot and the stick, and it has worked on the poor and the ignorant throughout time and in all nations. It is not unique to the middle east, unless you take into account that many of the nations contributing to terrorism are now, under the quise of holy war, banding together in ways that many of these traditional enemies of one another would never have done in the past. These men surely want what all evil men throughout time have wanted, power, money, land, but in this case it is more the preservation of a way of life that they hope to win, at any cost. The leaders of these groups, bands, tribes, and natiions have historically had a measure of control that no modern nation, or educated free person, could dream of. For example, former president Clinton, while the leader of the most powerful nation on earth, had a clandestine affair with a mere aide, not I would think, the woman of his dreams. If he were the leader of one of the nations we are now at war with he would have not only the pick of the most desirable women in the nation, but he would do so with impunity, enslaving any he chose. Current president Bush, who many think a megolomaniac, would just order a new palace built to suit his tastes, at any cost, and right now instead of settling for that dingy old white house we offer. I could try and better answer your question, but I believe this is as good an answer as I have to offer. I do offer one caveat though, for those that think we have no right to be there now, or that this is a battle between our government and leaders and the government and leaders of those nations we now fight, you are mistaken, whether you are for or against this war and the people over there you can be sure that the leaders of those people have already convinced more than enough of them that you are the enemy. You will be affected by it regardless of how you feel about it and fighting amongst ourselves now will only doom more of us to a death they don't believe or see is coming.

Of all these answers Bumper car is the only one I agree with, so far. Many people believe it was an inside job, and I have to agree because I have seen lots of evidence. Some haven't seen the evidence, and so they believe the official story. Others wouldn't believe anything except the official story, no matter how much of the evidence they saw!***

Because Bush:

Backed off Clinton administration's anti-terrorism efforts.
Shelved the Hart-Rudman report.

Appointed new anti-terrorism task force under Dick Cheney. Group did not even meet before 9/11.

Called for cuts in anti-terrorism efforts by the Department of Defense.

Gave no priority to anti-terrorism efforts by Justice Department.

Ignored warnings from Sandy Berger, Louis Freeh, George Tennant, Paul Bremer, and Richard Clarke about the urgency of terrorist threats.

Halted Predator drone tracking of Osama bin Laden.
Did nothing in wake of August 6 C.I.A. report to president saying Al Qaeda attack by hijack of an airliner almost certain.

Bush - knowing about the terrorists' plans to attack in America, warned that terrorists were in flight schools in the US - took a four week vacation.

By failing to order any coordination of intelligence data, missed opportunity to stop the 9/11 plot as Clinton-Gore had stopped the millennium plots.

RLP is wrong. Ossama and the others do not hate our way of life. They don't hate our freedom. They do hate that we occupy Iraq and they do hate or alliance with Israel.

Maybe because we needed it to to justify our desire to invade Iraq and finish the job started during someone else's presidency. I suppose we will never know that without asking those who actually were involved. I think a better question would be why our government did not see it coming and why warnings that were put forward about something happening were dismissed.

911 happened because some radicals hate the American culture. They see it as a threat to there own way of life. Probably the biggest thorn in their side is how women fit into our culture.

Simple it was a well thought out plan by a president that is not working for the people he swore to protect. 2 years later he also started an unjust war against a nation that was framed by his father
