coke cola is the best its down to oxidisation and carbon and too much to explain now but coke is the best it takes no effort just soakin for a couple of days and turning every now and then

Hi!
Well, Angel, one good cheap & cheerful method is to dangle the thing on a string into battery acid for a good few minutes.
Assuming that the battery is not a sealed job. The gunk goes to the bottom, and no harm done.
If that does not prove possible, leave the key in vinegar overnight.
Give the thing a wire brush, and all is well.

brass wire brush and wd40 will do the job quite well.. if you use a steel brush you stand damaging the key. The wd40 loosens the rust as well as protects it from further rust

Yep WD 40 is the magic stuff you need.
Oh and I wouldn't take "The cold voice of reasons" advice on this matter. Made me laff though.

Strangely, letting it soak in Coca Cola is good.
Equally strangely, cover it in brown sauce for a couple of hours

spray with WD-40 and clean it a steel brush lightly and spay it again to remove debris and to coat in from rust.

get some heavy-duty cleaner and degreaser and a small metal brush.... keep going until the rust is gone.
