I have wondered about this too as I am in the same boat I don't even know my doctor as I have never had to visit him .
I think it is a load of nonsense saying only professional people in certain jobs can sign.
I would rather have someone of good character sign mine.
Dr Harold Shipman was no doubt able to sign passport applications and of course charge for the service.
I have been honest and hard working for over 35 years, never been in trouble with the Police, even got a letter of commendation from them for arresting a street robber .But as I am only a lowly craftsman I cannot be trusted to sign a passport application It all stinks of Class discrimination

while my buddies and that i do an excellent order from McDonald's, 9 cases out of 10 there is something lacking. that's no longer the comparable eating place the two so there are somewhat some rubbish ones!
