Well, I would say it kinda depends on where you live, if you should worry about it. But since you are a single woman, I can totally understand why it would concern you. If you wanted numbers as far as stats go, I would say you have a 1 in 500 chance of experiencing a break-in if you live in a decent neighborhood. If its a bit shady, 1 in 300.

Tell you what, and I got my mother-in-law to do this. Go to a gun safety class and learn how to properly arm yourself, then of course purchase a decent firearm. And by the way, she is less worrisome now when her husband goes on trips.

It happens of course, but not so often that you should live in fear. There are some things you can do to make you home more secure though, lighting, alarms, locks and dead bolts and if possible,a dog. If your a woman living alone, keep a large pair of men's boots just outside the door. A gaurd dog sticker on windows and doors, even if you don't have one. Keep the number of a close neighbor or family member on speed dial. Get a room mate. Plan an escape route from each room. Just some thoughts, hope they're helpful.

No house is burglar proof, but there are things you can do to make it more difficult for the thief.

1. Motion lights outside the house to scar them away at night.
2.Make sure all the locks are secure.
3. Close your curtain when you leave and don't leave a light on a night when you come home, a thief has never been in your house and will not know where all the furnishing are and will not turn on a light to give himself away. Just don't make it easy for a thief to be able to just come in and in 10-15 minutes have most of your valuables gone.

You are scaring yourself more than you should be but get a big dog to stay inside with you and raise him from a pup and the dog will guard you
