Bleach, Fullmetal Alchemist, Naruto, One Piece and the Prince of Tennis are series I recomend.
They're all popular and all the episodes can be found on youtube.

I do think Berserk is a very good anime. The storyline is good and also the characters. It is a must. Telling you the storyline will only spoil you, soo watch it. But it's not for children. Ninja scroll is a weird anime but very addicting.
If you are looking for anime that can be watch by all ages,
I recommend Naruto. The story of a young boy who fights bad guys and wants to
become a hokage. Don't watch the fillers..you'll just get bored of it.
Some people are maniac over Bleach. A guy who fights bad spirit with a girl called rukia. You might like it but I find it mehh...
FMA aka Full Metal Alchemist also has alot of fans. The story of 2 brothers who lost something by casting a spell to get their dead mom alive.
Death Note is a very interesting one...a manga that kept me late at nights. A boy founds a notebook where you can kill anybody by writing the name in it.
There's amny others but i recommend reading manga instead. have fun

Hajime No Ippo (aka Fighting Spirit)
Bascially, it's about a teen named Ippo who discovers boxing after being rescused by a boxer who happended to happened to witness Ippo being beaten by some bullies. Ippo, ashamed for not being able to fight back, is determined to take up boxing to discover what it means to be strong. This is a great series that combines drama, comedy, and ferocious fight scenes.
Graveyeard of the Fireflies
Set in World War II Japan, a boy and his younger sister struggle to survive in a city ravaged by war. This film explores how war effects the lives of civilians, especially the children.
Castle in the Sky
One of Hayao Miyazaki's early films. The story follows the adventures of a boy from a mining town who discovered a girl who fell from the sky. It turns out the that the girl possesses a pendant with mysterious powers and there are people who are after her.... Imaginative worlds, beautiful scenery, animation, and rich musical score are highlights of this film.

I have also seen Berserk, here's what it's about.
It's the story of a guy named Guts, who is born Outside of Fate. Other shows teach you about what you can do with the power your friends give you (Naruto, Kenshin, etc.) That true friendship or love conquers all.
Berserk teaches you a more realistic lesson: Only what you actually DO with your free will matters. Berserk is violent, realistic and gritty, and it's not for kids.
But, it has the best characters in any Anime, ever.
It's also pretty old.

NANA
A story about 2 20 year old girls named Nana and both moving to Tokyo. Both having personalities completely opposite, they lived together in apartment room 707. Oosaki Nana (Nana) dreams to become a successful punk singer and Komatsu Nana (nicknamed Hachi) dreams to become a successful woman and a wife of her boyfriend. It's really fun to look into the details like... wonder why there are number 7 almost everywhere & almost everything? The reason is... Nana means seven. Yazawa-sensei adds so many things you can hunt in this series. In the later chapters (the anime is just about begin the story's tragedy), things become so complicated but you will enjoy and go mad about the character relationship. The songs in the anime and live-action movie are great. Since there are two bands in this series (Black Stones [Nana's band] and Trapnest [Black Stones' rival band... or should I say Nana's rivals. She hates Trapnest but her boyfriend is in this band...]), the openings and endings are sang by Nana (ANNA inspi' NANA) and Reira (OLIVIA inspi' REIRA). Hope you like this great anime!

Anything produced by CLAMP is usually unique and original, but Cardcaptor Sakura was my favorite as a kid. Check out youtube.
