Think of each line on the tab as a string. The BOTTOM line is the same as the low E on your guitar (usually the string closest to your face).

The number that is on each line represents the fret. For example, if the number is 3, you place your finger between the 2nd and 3rd fret (where that little dot is).

If there are multiple numbers- one on top of the other- this means that you will be fretting multiple strings at a time and probably strumming. Place your fingers in the most comfortable way so that the proper strings are fretted at the proper place.

If you see an X in the tab, this means that the string is not to be played. If there is an 0 then the string is played open, without fretting it.

Dude, it is not the tabs that you want, it is the chords. The chords will allow you to play any song without the need to learn to read music. That is what most modern musicians do.
If you play classical guitar, on the other hand, you may want to get music that is written in both, standard music notation and tablature.
You can buy many books that are written that way.
Good luck,

The tabs are set up so that you are reading a six string guitar.
So if you see a tab with the number 3 on the 3rd string from the bottom, that's the string yu play and on the third fret!
Here's an easy way to remember at first.
Think of a 'C" chord. You use 3 notes. The ring finger goes on the 3rd fret of the 5th string. The middle finger on the 2nnd fret of the 3rd string. Finally, the index finger is on the first fret of the 2nd string. The 'x's are for strings not played.
---------------------------------- 1st string (E)
--------1-------------------------- 2nd string
--------2-------------------------- 3rd
----------------------------------- 4th
--------3------------------------ 5th
--------x-------------------------- 6th (E)
