I just moved to NYC with my hubby about 4 months ago. I really do not like it here. I have encountered so many rude and unfriendly people here and everything seems to be more difficult. We just got this expensive $3000 a month apartment and I just signed a 3 year contract with a modeling agency, so moving out would not be the best idea as of now. How can I feel more at home in this cold city? Is there any way to get used to it? I really do not understand all the hype about NYC......

You mention that you are a model. From what I understand, modelling in NYC is a high pressure business that probably generates a great deal of rudeness. I live in the NYC area and do not find people especially rude or cold. New Yorkers do have an edginess about them that may take some getting used to. I'd suggest that you frequent places (perhaps museums) where people tend to be on their best behavior. Good luck. And remember, "If you can make it there, you can make it anywhere. It's up to you...."

Get involved in things you're interested in, surely everyone in NYC is not unfriendly. Maybe if you have that comfort of home then you'll feel better, surrounding yourself with great friends or family from back home could do the trick. Invite a good friend or family member to visit then go out and have fun, meet people. NYC is a HUGE city with soo many people and soo many things to do, they say if you can make it there you'll make it anywhere.

You somewhat answered your own question... You don't like it because you've encountered so many rude and unfriendly people. I don't think I'd like it either in that case. Maybe you need to get involved in some activities with different kinds of people who would suit you better. There must be groups, clubs, churches, a gym ... something that would help you meet new people. Chances are, once you meet some people there who are better for you, the rest will start to look better. Good luck. :)

I sympathize with you...

Plan your next move!

I spent my first 18 years there, and between the air pollution, crowds & crimes, I could hardly wait to leave...

Since I've left, I've never gone back, nor regretted it!

On a positive note, NYC has something for everyone...even you! So if you dig a little bit, you'll find it...
