Feeling shame is part of being human. We all make some mistakes and/or choices that as time passes, we regret and feel ashamed of and/or find ourselves in circumstances that we are not proud of. It is important to own your successes as well as your failures, it has created who you are today. The important distinction is to be able to learn from the past in order to become a better you and not to repeat the errors of your own personal history.

Many things happen in life, and sometimes we make decisions without thinking, and as we grow we may have regrets about certain decisions.

Feeling ashamed is felt only by other people’s opinions, and judging you.

The reality is you learn from your mistakes and grow, if you have done something you regret you shouldn't be ashamed, other people have gone through the same thing, and if you view it as a learning experience then you can help others not make the same mistake.

And if you have done something that has wronged or hurt other individual, you should do your utmost in making it right, even if they don’t forget be regretful, because then you don’t have a guilty conscious.

Good Luck

NO. A person should not be ashamed of his / her past.

We are not perfect. We stumble and fall. Sometimes, several times. But, we have to get up, and make extra effort to prevent from stumbling & falling again.

What happened cannot be undone anymore. The past is past. Who cares about it? So, Forget it!! Think of today, and plan for the future.

Anyone who deliberately and knowingly did something that harmed a person who was helpless to defend themselves should be ashamed. Especially if that person was dependent on them, like a child or an elderly parent.

The truly unfortunate thing is that people who do deliberate harm to helpless people are generally unable to feel ashamed of their actions.

They may should want to turn it around and be sorry about it, but you have to forgive yourself and look at the future so you won't be ashamed of it when it comes to the present and past.

Shame is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it can provide a great deal of motivation for positive change. On the other hand, it can paralyze an individual with feelings of inadequacy.

I feel that everyone makes mistakes, but the people who LEARN FROM THEIR MISTAKES and improve themselves from experience are the ones who will become the best adults.

They should learn from it and make amends if overwhelmed by guilt or in the need to be forgiven, but if your past has taught you and made you stronger, and alas better, for it, then put it away.
