nincompoop mayor of New Orleans or that half wit Governor of Louisiana? I have always been amazed why the city or state did nothing and the people blamed Bush. And the people reelected the mayor. Never underestimate the stupidity of your fellow American I suppose. Your thoughts?

The federal govt. has given billions and billions of dollars in the aftermath of Katrina and in a corrupt state like Louisiana, the stuff probably ended up in the pockets of politicians and contractor friends of politicians.

The mayor... was scared had his undies tied in a knot and didnt know where to turn. He had never been through this before. He showed poor judgement. Reall y he didnt know what to do.Except lash out with his mouth. He let lots of people die because of his lack of knowledge.. he in turned blamed the gov. for not taking a step to help. If he had been more of a man and had his wheels set in motion I dont think all these lives would of perished and if he had a plan before hand this wouldnt of happened. You have to have a plan just in case this happens and he didnt have a clue what was going on.. just standing around with his finger up his butt. I may be wrong but this is what i saw.

The Governor and mayor should have been ran out of town for their mishandling of the whole thing. President Bush offered his help and they were basically twiddling their thumbs. Their incompetence caused all those people to suffer. The mayor and the governor are just using President Bush as their scape goat because they don't want to admit they screwed up so bad that its not even comprehend able. And they look like fools because anybody could see that they had no clue how to handle such a horrific natural diseaster. Why did they let those levees get so bad? They should have been preventive instead of doing nothing. They so failed those people that I get mad everytime I think about it. They should be run out of town. There was no reason all those people had to suffer at the extent that they did. It should never have gotten that bad.

I think they've all been blamed. The blame spreads across far and wide, at both the federal and state level. However, federal funding of the Army Corps of Engineers (and the lack thereof) as well as the cronyism in FEMA are particularly glaring. That being said, while Nagin was reelected, Kathleen Blanco's probably going to lose this upcoming November to Bobby Jindal. Her numbers are terrible in-state.

I agree. I'm a Metairie local and learned all to well that Louisiana has had a history of electing corrupt or weak politicians. I hoped that the hurricane would wash them away.....They failed the city once in the midst of crisis. Why would anyone re-elect them?!
I really don't know what the New Orleanians were thinking to elect a racist for a mayor.....

a u.s. president is, traditionally, held responsible for just about everything that goes wrong. this happens because a president also can take credit for just about everything that goes right. i think the (non) response to katrina was a fiasco because it showed that government at all levels was totally unprepared and/or unwilling to respond. shame on all their houses. and, don't lose sight of the aftermath. how many thousands of families continue to be displaced? did you know, for example, that the major public hospital is still not open?

Could it be because Bush is a Republican and the mayor and governor were Democrats? Just a wild guess.

The citizens who got left behind took refuge in the Superdome and other spots instead of making rafts out of debris and heading up the Mississippi. Was it too dangerous to get on that river and head north?

You're pretty much correct.
And does it make sense to re-build a city beneath sea level, NEXT TO THE SEA??

The Federal Government (under Bush) failed to help the people following Hurricane Katrina. The same Federal Government (with a majority on Capitol Hill) did not fail in prosecuting war in Iraq at the same time.Inexcusable.A crime of omission.
