Depends on who she was talking to and why. If the cell phone is to stay in contact with parents, I'm all for them at any age. There is actually a Disney phone that restricts calls to family members.

My daughter had her first cell phone in 3rd grade, so I can contact her in case of an emergency. Her friends are NOT allowed to call her on it, it's for family use ONLY. Her phone also has a tracking devise (Chaperone feature)that I can activate from my phone to see exactly where she (and the phone is) it provides an address and map of her location. I do not use the phone as a baby sitter just an option to track my child if necessary.

Better safe than sorry!

They have a new kids cell phone out where the parents moniter all calls and text msgs sent, i would consider it when they were like 12, they are still at school and schools have phones, its silly forking out a huge sum of cash for a cell phone that will get lost or broken within a week.

If she has the cell phone as a way for her parents to reach her at all times it's not unreasonable. Especially when you consider all of the abducted children every year or school shootings.

I think it is good for children that age to have cell phones but ONLY for certain purposes like calling parents, emergencies, ect. A cell phone could actually help to protect a child who walks home from school or is at a friends house and needs his/her parents immediately because something is wrong.

There are Cell phone for kids that are restricted to like four phone numbers. In these times when it seems like you hear of children being kidnapped or attempted kidnappings every night on the News, I am not surprised at all.

It's not ridiculous at all. My 11 yr old and my 9 yr old both have cell phones. They are prepaid ones so they can't run up the bill, but I like knowing they have them incase of an emergency!

This is why I sometimes wish I was Amish !!!
This is more than rediculous. I don't even own a cell phone nor would I want to EVER ! The world is spinning a bit too fast for me. I'm glad that I am old.

that is completely ridiculas. im 15 and i got my cell phone when i was 11, which honestly i think i was way too young. but my grandparents got it for me for emergencies ONLY, because my house phone was always shut off because my mom never had money for bills.

but its still ridiculas that a third grader would even have the thought of having a cell phone. thats wat wrong with kids these days. you see kids in the grocery store acting like little brats and show no respect. but its because they are spoiled to death.

Kids have been doing that since phones were invented.

One time when I was a kid in grade school, I called my aunt and invited her to dinner, and then forgot to tell my mom (that was not good)!
