That's a vague question, but it's all about science and evolution.

We are humans purely by accident.
Our ancestors would never have been given the opportunity to advance over the globe as mammals did had not the meteor or asteroid slammed into the earth knocking off the dinosaurs.
As our ancestors climbed down out of the trees and began to walk upright so as to peek out over the tall grasses of Africa(much as the meerkats of today do ) for predators evolution gifted us with that trait or we would still be scurrying around in the trees and undergrowth trying to keep from being food.
Had our ancestors not entered Europe and survived all of those thousand of cold, hard winters and predators we humans would never have achieved any civilization to any degree. We would be all as naked savages diging in the ground for grubs or ctching small animals with sticks or our hands for supper.
The hard climax early humans faced in Europe was responsible for the advancement of our species into intelligent mammals.

A wise and beautiful woman once told me that humans exist as they do now so we can exist as more than just a species, but an intelligent race with a past, present and future. We are human so we may do MORE than just exist, but accomplish things with our lives.
It is shocking, even to me sometimes, that we evolved the way we did... though I am atheist, it causes one to question: are we a part of something bigger? Or is most everything just an incredible fluke?

Are we really superior though?
But I think we're humans because of our ability to think as we can. We also have an advanced way to communicate, which is through direct conversation by way of speaking. Other species, such as animals, cannot communicate verbally and rely on their other senses.
However, I don't think that makes us quite "superior". Advanced, yes. But superior? No...At least not in God's eyes.
