I read somewhere that you should only have one firewall running at a time. If I install Norton Anti Virus, do I need to disable the firewall on my Windows XP?

no, in fact you shouldn't.

norton antivirus is only an antivirus program, windows firewall is only a firewall program - antivirus and firewall are different things.

You can cause conflict while having 2 firewalls. But if Norton AntiVirus has a firewall, turn Windows Firewall off and turn on Nortons.

No, you need both, assuming that you're talking about Norton Antivirus by itself.

It's also bundled with a security package that includes a firewall; I believe it's called Norton Internet Security. If you're using that, then you should disable the Windows Firewall if you use the Norton one.

I think it does it automatically, in effect the Norton Firewall tells windows XP "i'll take it from here". It does depend if you norton antivirus (which is JUST an antivirus) or Norton internet security, which will have everything.

there is a difference between windows firewall and norton anti virus, they are not the same product. one is a virus scanner and the other is a firewall.
the things is dont install more that one 3rd party (not xp default) virus or firewall.

Yes you should only have one. My question is why disable the perfectly good windows firewall in favour of the resource hogging nortons one?
