And I have a really quick question....you know those self ear piercing kits they have at like Sally's beauty suppy? Can you pierce your belly with that, or will it not work? I mean I could make the hole with that, and some how put a navel ring into that....but just to let you know....I'm not little. I'm in high school, and I know what I'm going to do to myself, so thanks for all your help!

But please don't critisize! I realize there are risks....and that my mom doesn't want me to do it, but be kind! I'm just curious and think it's cute! And I'm just trying to find some suggestions, other than "Don't do it! Listen to your mother." I don't listen to my mother, I never have...so obviously your comments won't help me. Just tell me the risks and what I can do to stop infections and stuff. Once my mind's made up, there's no turing back.

K my parents wouldn't allow it yet I have had a belly ring for 3 weeks, here is the trick get a friend who is older and have them pose as your parent it worked for me, especially a woman as your mother would work, because you wouldn't have to think too hard to tell them why your last names aren't the same, not that they'll ask

oh and those ear piercing kits are a 16 gadge which is too small you need a 14 gadge which is bigger (isn't that weird as the number goes down the size goes up the largest size I've seen is a 1gadge which is about the size of your little finger gross right!)

initially you'll feel a little pain pretty regularly. As it starts healing though, it'll go away. Definitally use bactine like somebody above me said. It REALLY helps with the pain and keeps all germs and bacteria out of the piercing. Also, keep in mind that navel piercing can take up to 1 YEAR to fully heal. I had a friend that had hers done and it would always bleed a little and hurt if she took it out for even an hour or two. It wasn't infected or anything (went to a doctor to be sure). Navel piercing just have a hard time healing on some people.

first of all, a navel peircing is usually a 12 or 14 gauge (I can't remember which) and ear peircing kits won't work. they are too small and you will never get a navel ring through it. You really need a hollow needle to do it. One that is bent, not straight. navel rings are curved and they wont go through a straight hole easily. second, you should really have a proffesional do it if possible because you don't want it too deep, or too shallow because the ring won't fit right. they have to pull it out with a clamp and get the right depth for it to look right. So good luck and If I were you I'd wait til you were 18 and get it done professionally. If not, good luck to you.

regarding additional details:
Well, don't say we didn't warn you, if you get gangreen on your belly button, don't come crying to us about how to fix it cuz all i'll say is "I told you so, you should have listened to your mother!"

wow, you're in high school....you're sooooooo grown up. If you're really "not little" then you wouldn't be so worried about a belly button ring.

The kits at Sally's are for ears, your belly button requires a rounded type needle, also, you will need to make sure you have it done by a professional. Here is why. That area, while not as sensitive to pain, (because it's skin), is prone to infections, and also keloids (sp?) scar tissue that grows. I promise you, even if you have it done by a professional, it will bother you for a while. Your clothes will rub on it, it will be uncomfortable to sleep, and you will have to keep it very clean.

Here's the deal. I know you want it done for "some" reason, however, you mother said NO. Respect your mother. She has her reasons, and I am sure they are good ones. You can do whatever you want to do, when you are 18, a pierced belly button is not really a big deal!!!!!

OH MY GOD STOP.

No, you CANNOT pierce your belly button by yourself!!!!

This is how belly buttons are pierced (I know from experience, i had mine done last week)

First, the piercer cleans and marks your belly. Then you lay on a bed and he places a clamp on your belly button where you are going to be pierced. Then he uses a special needle specifically for piercing your belly button. The jewlrey you are going to have placed in your belly button is attatched to the needle. Then he runs the needle through your belly button and the jewlrey is inserted. This is a complex process with special equipment!

DO NOT do it by yourself! You will end up getting infections or scars.

Talk to your mom about it more. Tell her it will close up when you take it out. If she really isn't buying it, just wait until you are old enough to do it yourself (thats what I had to do). You're in high school, you only have a few years left until you are old enough.

Honey, I absolutely would NOT try to pierce your naval yourself. I would suggest letting a trained professional do this kind of piercing. I know you say mom won't let you get it done. You could try talking to her about it again, expain and prove that you are responsible enough to have it done or if its because she's old fashioned try to convince her that this is a normal, trendy fashion statement now that many girls have. However, if she still won't budge try to be patient and wait until you're 18. Then you can legally pierce whatever you want without anyone's permission.

I know you don't want to hear that you should listen to your mother, but you should listen to your mother. You cannot pierce your own belly. If done improperly, the piercing can leave scars. Infections create additional scarring. It isn't worth marring your body. Wait until you are old enough to make the decision yourself without parental input. If you still want to do it, do it then. What's the big deal with waiting?

OK well first off if your going to do it your self remember to rub your belly with rubbing alcohol first to disinfect. no need to infect it the moment you pierce it. now i doubt that an ear piercing kit will work cause the holes in your ears are straight through where as your belly is curved. sorry i don't have any help for you just warnings.i would try using a bent sewing needle. no i don't mean go bend one they make special needles for sewing couches and ears on bears and what not that are rounded.

Obviously you DON'T know what you're doing to yourself, otherwise you would know that no, you cannot do it with a "do-it-yourself" ear piercing kit (that shouldn't even be using on your EARS).

And apparently you don't know about the list of infections you could get by doing it yourself, that will most likely eventually have you at the hospital, because they won't clear up on their own.

So, have fun with that!

I had my navel pierced and i REGRET it!! I am not pregnant and had to take it out, now i have HUGE scares from it that will probablly NEVER go away. It's really not worth it, and most guys dont like the navel being pierced anyways.
