Yankees are far better than your Red Sox.

I'm also a die hard Sox fan, but it's hard to say. It looks like both front offices are looking at the big picture and have realized that talent needs to be tempered with team chemistry (note: 2004 WS Champs). As long as the Yankees have A-Rod in their clubhouse to provide an enormous distraction, they're looking at another loss to Detroit in the ALDS this year. But with the signing of Andy Petitte, a superior line-up, a superior bullpen, and a superior starting five (if Clemens joins the team), on paper, the Yankees are the better team.

Poster, you should ask this question again after the trade deadline. I'm not sure how things will pan out with Dice-K, but I'm hoping for the best. Manny's antics late last season were almost as good for the Red Sox as A-Rod is at any given time for the Yankees clubhouse. If Craig Hansen doesn't get his head out of his butt and start throwing the offspeed stuff with the great sinking action that Boston drafted him for, they're in trouble bullpen-wise, because how much can Sox fans expect out of Timlin (I do love the guy, don't get me wrong, but he showed his age last season). What a thrill it would be, the prospect of Schilling, Beckett, Papelbon, Lester, and Dice-K starting, with Wake and Pinieiro (fingers crossed) platooning and long-relieving, and the bullpen getting it together by mid-season. I hope the Sox brass is committed to keeping Papelbon as a starter throughout the season. I see them going after a closer at the deadline if one of the youngsters doesn't nail the job.

I don't know. The rule is that, when the games count, good pitching beats good hitting. Regular season doesn't matter (sorry, "Boston Massacre" proponents, how quickly you forget your own arguments)... So, only time will tell. But I still think that A-Rod is to the Yankees in the current era what the current U.S. Executive Branch is to Team America. He is the trump card in the Red Sox's favor if we're speaking about better teams, regardless of talent.

This is a question that can't really be answered.

But let's see how things pan out.

The Red Sox closed the gap some but the Yankees still have the better overall team.

The Red Sox!! They have the pitching. The Yankees' pitching is still suspect. Both teams can hit. Look for a dogfight in the East with the Sox coming out on top this year!!

Chow!!

Well with the moves that the Bosox made this winter the pitching appears to be better than the Yankees but a lot depends on the investment that they made in Matsuzaka. If he pans out then the Sox may have a better pitching staff.
Pitching wins Championships.
That being said there is no better lineup in baseball then the Yankees so as evenly matched as they have been again it's anybody's call this season.
Yankees in a tough fight.

It's going to be a great race between the Sox and the Yankees with the Blue Jays not to far out of the mix. The AL East could get tight like it did at one point during last season.

In the end the Yankees will prevail. They always do.

Does anyone care? The MLB's not all about Red Sox and Yankees.
