I've been singing for years and still get BAD stagefright. In one talent comp' I was literally throwing up in between taking large slugs of brandy. (I won a holiday to Mexico)
Even now, I shake, have to munch on peanuts and a little dutch courage.
Once I start singing on stage though....it's great..honest..you don't have time to think about nerves, the song takes over.
You may always get 'stagefright' like me but you'll be fine once you've warmed up...anyway..we're in good company...I've heard Whitney used to have a bucket backstage ;-)

You become confident by DOING it! Get out there and start singing in front of people - there's really no way around it. It does help if you know the material really well too. If you are confident in your own ability to sing a given song, and it is something you enjoy singing, that will show through when you attempt to perform for others. Confidence is something that has to be developed. Don't be too hard on yourself if your nerves get the best of you when starting out....... it may take a lot of practice before you feel comfortable getting up in front of people. I used to be absolutely terrified of singing for people, but now I'm a vocal performance major at a university. Good luck!

i had that problem too, i solved it by singing in front of someone i knew wouldn't criticize or judge me,(my best friend), then i just started singing to all my friends. You can always try that or record yourself singing, if your as good as you say you are your friends will like u which will hopefully give you confidence to sing in front of them. :)

Singing is awesome!

i'm not a singer but a friend of mine is, and this is what she does. she gets in front of people, but she turns her back to them so she doesn't have to see their faces. at some point you will have to work up your confidence, but this might be a good start.

There is only one way, do it over and over again. Success in anything is through practice. Once the ice is broken you can loosen up. Relaxation is key for your vocal cords to work properly. Good luck, oh you could start smaller like at church or a local pocket theater.
