I just bought a little robo dwarf hamster and named her Peanut. I realize that it takes time but I just need to know like what I can do. So far I just place my hand in her cage and offer her food, I try my best to resist trying to pick her, I want to but I dont want to scare her. I figure after awhile she wont be afraid of me and I can just easily pick her up. I dunno :-/ Anyway Thanks!!!

hampsters are fun...i bred and raised them for most of my adult life...

smaller hampsters are hard to get them to associate more with you but it can be done...

each day you can put your hand in the cage...just on the bottom...don't chase the hampster and let them come to you...eventually they will get used to your hand being there and come and sit on it...

do that for a few days or weeks untill they are very comfy...then gently left him off the bottom a little at first...do that for a few days or weeks then more when they are comfy...

eventually you can take them out of the cage without fear...

i had a special hampster that would sleep in my harms and when i lay on the bed...he would curl up in my hair and go to sleep...he slept in my pocket as i go to town and he even walked on a leash...he lived to be 5 years old...was offered $500.00 for that boy...but said no...he was my special little boy...

remove the food from her cage. do this for the entire day. then at night, place your hand in the cage. on your hand, there should be a spoon with peanut butter on it. she will love the peanut butter, and the best part is, she has to stay on your hand to eat it. she can't grab it and hide. keep doing this. gently stroke her as she eats. ALWAYS make sure that she can see your other hand, before you touch her, or she will, I REPEAT, she will bite.

do not under any circumstances, attempt to pick her up, until she is regularly taking food out of your hands. she may look cute and cuddly, but when they're scared, they're defensive. a defensive hamster, is a VICIOUS hamster. you should see some of the scars i have, from a robo hamster.

best of luck. be patient, don't give up, forgive the frightened nips and im sure you and Peanut will be best of friends.

With our hamsters we have always picked them up from very young...perhaps give them a couple of days to make themselves at home.

Sometime we let the cage door down so it rests on your lap and then persuade the hamster to walk out on to your knee

If you have a cardboard tube it plays in then you can sometime lift them out on to your lap using that.

At first we just keep them out for a short time and keep them very near the cage. Try feeding it a nice treat whilst it's on your knee...ours loves cucumber.

Good luck with the little fella

let her run on your bed, get an exercise ball, take off the top and she will climb in, either out of the cage, or on your bed. they will get used to you and relate you to having fun, and good treats. if you have no luck after awhile, get rid of it and get a regular hamster, such as a honeybear, teddy bear, or pandabear, they are friendlier, sometimes dwarfs have a bad temperament, but you will soon find out.

Pick her up a lot. Handle her frequently. The more the better. She will soon become relaxed too it.
