When I turn to look at her from about 10-12 feet away, she can see me and pulls her head under the water sometimes, how far can they see, and with what acuity?

Their vision, smell, and taste seems very similar to a humans, which is actually a bit unusual for a small animal. They do not hear much but sense vibration instead.

They don't see much color- mostly yellows to reds.

Remember that in the wild, most of their enemies don't have a smell or make much noise- but they DO move. Birds of prey attack from the air- just like we seem to do when we get too close.
