In the case of earth life it we don't manage to distribute some life to a suitable planet before the sun engulfs earth in a few billion years that' all she wrote.
But I suspect that the combination of nuclear weapons and religion will do most of us in way before that.

Why do you not believe in the "big bang" when evidence shows all galaxies moving away from each other? If they are flying apart now, there must have been a period in time when they were all close together. Why is it beyond comprehension? Would God needlessly make it more complicated than what we can see in a telescope and see around us on Earth? Yes, I believe the universe had a beginning. I do not know if it will have an ending. Evidence is that the current expansion will continue forever.

In a scenario where the universe ends in a big crunch, there's a poissible scenario known as the omega point, at which a technology develops so rapidly that the time period for a calculation decreases exponentially faster than the speed of collapse of the universe. See this link for the implications of this (I can't put what I mean into the right words, its easier to look at the wiki page):

Sorry to end your dreams of eternal life, but one day in the not too distant future (about4/5 billion years) the sun will run out of nuclear fuel and it will engulf the earth and everything will be destroyed, even your local MacDonald's.
Get your order in today, you still have time.

DON'T PANIC! Just kidding...
I think that life is just energy and energy will always be around. It might not always look the same, but it goes on and on and on...
Our planet might be doomed, human beings might be "doomed" but life does go on - it just looks different.

Yes life is perpetual.
The soul does not die it goes into the eternal state heaven or hell.
We choose while in the body where we are going to spend it.
A book called 90 minutes in Heaven written by Don Piper a man who tells his experience of visiting hell.

It seems likely that in an infinitely large universe, life will abide.
In the big picture, our planet is probably not so significant.

It's a paradox. On one hand life survives against incredible odds. On the other hand everything else tends towards entropy. Makes you think there is something else going on doesn't it?

Yes, life will end. When Jesus comes back, life on this earth will end. If we don't destroy all life before then.
