I think it's a boring thing to do. It is necesary sometimes at work, and also if you don't want 2 hurt someone, or in poker it's good -I guess. Otherwise - not to let others to see your emotions it's just about being a coward. If you feel something - be brave to show it, - if you don't show it - how do you expect people (especially close ones) to know what you really like?! We are all vulnerable sometimes and it's good. It makes us human!

it depends. sometimes you just become numb in order to protect yourself from further pain. if someone is constantly turning them on and off, without any sort of explanation, then that's a little cold. i'd feel pretty shut out.
