Why is it larceny if they sent the check to me. I could play dumb and say I did not know. It is for $32,000 however so that would not fly to well. It appears to be a a business related check and not a scam.

Is the name on the check YOUR name (not just on the envelope)? Then it is your check to deposit. How could a check with your name on it not be for you unless both parties agreed in advance that you would deposit the check, but give the money to someone else.

Could result in Criminal Charges ( depending on the amount), you could be charged with Grand Larceny and tie up your account. This would not be a smart move on your part. and
YES!! IT IS ILLEGAL!! why would you do somethind like that???

GOD BLESS/GOOD LUCK!!

If the check is in your name, you can deposit it. However, be aware that an unexpected, unsolicited check is probably a scam.

If the check is not in your name, it's fraud and probably theft.

You could be guilty of fraud if it was not meant for you. I would contact whoever sent you the check and explain the error to them.

If you know it's wrong at the outset, just don't do it. Life is all about learning how to spot these little opportunities to save ourselves some trouble, and avoiding them. Here's an opportunity. What will you do with it?
