I had a D & S (dialation & suction) which is more or less the same thing.
Recovery: At first (for about the 1st 24hrs) No pain, no problems
After that, when the meds wore off, the pain began. It
felt much better with motrin. The total length of pain
was only about 2 days.
Length of stay: I was in and out within a couple of hours.
The procedure: Very routine, very uncomplicated
Mental Healing: Procedure was done in 9/06 and I am still having
some depression today. It comes and it goes.
There are websites for greiving parents who lost their baby. They are support groups. Good Luck!

It was a nightmare. Had it done thru Day-Surgery office. Afterwards there was pain, cramping, continuous bleeding, weakness, nausea, vomiting.... for a week. Got so severe I had to be admitted to the hospital again, only to discover the OB/GYN who did the procedure DID NOT remove all the bad tissue..... so I had to have the procedure repeated.
Post-partum depression also kicked in bad; lasted about 3 months.

A D&C or dilation and currettage is when they dilate your cervix, stick an instrument into you uterus through your vagina that looks like a small ice cream scoop and scrape off the lining of you uterus (pls. pardon the graphic illustration). As far as I know, it can be an out-patient procedure although your doctors will give you some form of sedation and probably anesthesia. You may experience some vaginal bleeding and discomfort after the procedure.
