And no more slaves could be packed in. And those that were there would breed in captivity and provide free labour for hundreds of years. Who takes the credit? Wilberforce? A lot of tosh?

The question had to be truncated to fit yahoo's box, so yes, it is rough but it is all there. If the abolition of slavery was a honest and genuine attempt to put things right, the slaves in captivity should have been returned to their homes. THAT IS MY POINT.

I completely agree with you that the abolition was a whitewash. After stocking up on slaves to last for ever and having no need for more they "abolished " slavery. It is good to be informed, or to see things in the right light. Maybe Wilberforce and the others meant well but they cannot be called saviours or any such stuff.

The plantations were packed cuz we kept bringing people over from Africa and the West Indies. A lot of people were killed. Humans were never meant to be treated like Cattle, that's why we sing the praises of abolition.

Slavery is the owning of other human beings.
So you're saying that slavery is ok, as long as money is made??
Well then, do you want to give it a try? Be a slave? "Ol massa can use that whip on you, boy. All da time. Be careful, now. If you don' do tha work righ', then youse gonna get a whipping."
Fool! My ancestors were slaves, and I'm sure they weren't singing happily! People over money, dear.

If your question made any sense, I'd provide you with an answer.
But start with John Adams, and the trial of the slaves on The Amistad, and you'll be on the right track.
Actually, there is a film called Amistad, made by Steven Spielberg, so why not watch it. You may learn something...
