My partner and I have a single day in Singapore before flying out. We'll have from early morning until around 4pm. Can anyone suggest/recommend the best shopping places to visit during our brief stay? Including ideas on where to have breakfast and lunch? We're staying on Orchard Road.

Orchard Road is the biggest shopping area in Singapore. Also the place where u can find all the branded items. Malls at Orchard that are worth to visit dependings on the stuff you looking for: 1) Ngee Ann City, WismaAtria (both are linked) 2) Far East Plaza, Heeren (more into street wear & fashion for young adults) 3) Robinson, Tangs (Fav Haunt among ladies & housewives Others shopping district tat i recommend (not orchard rd) 1) Bugis Junction & Bugis Village (popular among teens) 2)Suntec City & Marina Square ( Drop by if u have time, i deem this as a smaller version of Orchard Road) 3) Chinatown (tourist attraction, can find great food stuff) 4) Sim Lim Square (electornics haven -try your luck for piracy if any) Neighorhood Malls (visit if u really have lots of free time, else forget abt it) 1) Tampines Mall 2) Jurong Point 3) Bishan Junction 8 As i strongly feel tat 2 days is kind of short, recommend you to visit Orchard Road & Bugis. Note: Sim Lim Square is near Bugis

food is available everywhere in singapore
there's some 24 food court in orchard road, just ask the hotel staff for assistance.

Most shopping centres starts from 11.00 am in orchard road, but in the heartland (residential area) shops starts much earlier at around 8am.

Take the MRT train to Tiong Bahru Station, from there, ask anyone for walking directions (5-10 mins) to Tiong Bahru Market for cheap fashion clothings and other stuffs, and good local food.

Mustafa is a good idea as it's 24/7 one-stop store selling anything from car assessories, jewellery, clothings, TVs, phones, TV, mobile phone, DVDs player, digital camera, perfume to watches and money changing, etc. And its prices is also very competitive (cheaper than orchard road).

Take a taxi to Suntec City, Kopitiam open at 8am (for food). After that, shop in the area. many shopping malls and shops in Suntec vicinity. When tired, stop to eat, everywhere you turn in Suntec City is food (food court, cafe, macdonalds....). Shop till time to go airport, got bus to take from there. One place enough Suntec City!

Most shopping centre in orchard area opens around 10.30 - 11am. Before that, try going to Mustafa Centre at Serangoon (little India), It's a 24 hrs mega mall that's worth a visit. And very accessable from orchard by bus or MRT (subway).

If you're game for cheap local breakfast, visit the tekka market nearby for some Roti Prata (fried indian pancake with curry), Chai Tao Kueh (fired carrot cakes), and kopi / teh (coffee/tea).

Thereafter, proceed to orchard road for shopping.

For major shopping places (store), can go Shaw Center (Isetan), C.K. Tang, NgeeAnn City (Takashimiya), Wisma Atrium, Lucky Plaza, Centrepoint (Robinsons), Specialist Shopping Centre (JohnLittle), OG, Plaza Singapura... these departmental stores are more or less the same. Other nearby places for shopping Bugis Village, Suntec, RafflesCity, little india, chinatown....

Lunch at any food court / hawker centre in orchard road or anyway, there's always one nearby in food haven singapore.

it's easy!
be prepared in your gear - berms and tee shirts will work fine, you probably want to prepare a brolly as well. it's been raining for some days.

1. shopping stretches from CK tangs (mid - high end), Far East shopping centre (to get funky, cool stuff), takashimaya (there's kinokuniya for book lovers and loads of shopping for the ladies.), Wheelock place (with borders, crumpler... you may want to eat lunch at SUN AND MOON - great japanese food!)
2. venture to little india or chinatown (great place to feel how the locals work and eat... try the hawker centre at chinatown people park's complex.)

Start your brand new day with this Itinerary:

1) Have your lugguages all packed first before you set off. In case you've no time to come back and set things ready. Have breakfast at any nearby shopping malls like Ngee Ann City, Lucky Plaza, Wisma Atria & Paragon for Din Tai Fung (Xiao Long Bao dumplings).

2) After your breakfast, travel out of Orchard area to Bugis. It is near Orchard, you can take bus no.7 from the bus stop outside Lucky Plaza to Bugis and if you don't know where to alight, just ask our helpful bus driver to direct you. The journey will only take you 10mins. When you reach there, it should be about 10am and some shops may be open, you can either shop in the Bugis Street (non-aircon) or Bugis Junction (aircon). Expect slight crowds to swamp in at about 12pm. If you're shopping in Bugis Street, you can bargain for prices on vcds/dvds, watches, clothes, shoes, bags, earrings, authentic perfumes etc. Behind Bugis Street, there is a hawker centre which sells nice & cheap local delights for your lunch, it will definitely crave for more. There is also a big chinese temple, a famous & reowned one. You can take some pictures as well. And if you're in Bugis Junction, prices stated in the shops & restaurants are all fixed, unless some sales is going on. Bigger brands like Levi's Strauss, Ocean Pacific, TopShop, Frontier, Swatch, Yoshinoya, Billy Bombers etc are all located inside this shopping mall.

3) Maybe when you're done with your shopping, it will be about 2pm, you can travel back to your hotel in Orchard. Either take a bus no.7 to go back, if not take our MRT (Mass Rapid Transit), a train, to depart from Bugis MRT station, located underneath Bugis Junction, to Ochard MRT station or Somerset MRT Station (depending on which part of Orchard you lives at). After you've reach your hotel, prepare to set off and ask for a cab so you don't have to wait and immediately you can travel straight to the Changi Airport.

The above places that I've intro you is near Orchard's vicinity, so that you've enough time to shop & sightsee. Also, remember Bugis is a famous spot for both Singaporeans & tourists. Have a great day and hope you've a nice stay in Singapore!!

there are loads of shopping in Orchard Road, here are just a few
Takashimaya, Paragon, Isetan, Herren, Centrepoint, Tangs, etc.

For breakfast wise, I am not too sure as most shops open around 1030am, maybe you can try asking people at the hotel you are staying.

I suggest you can go Takashimaya for all your shopping needs as well as lunch as the basement has many stalls selling local food. hope you enjoy your stay, cheers
