A fill pipe for a tank can fill the tank in 4 hours. The drain pipe can fill it in 2 hours. If both of the pipes are opened, how long will it take to make a half filled tank totally empty?

Jess and Lindsey are addressing invitations to their party. Lindsey can make one every 30 seconds. Jess can make one every 40 seconds. How long will it take them together to make 140 address cards?

the fill pipe can fill the tank in 4 hours
the drain pipe i'm assuming you meant drains it in 2 hours
half filled tank emptying will take 1 hour, but if the fill pipe is open in one hour it will fill enough to take half an hour to drain then 1/4 of an hour to drain what goes in during the extra half hour, then 1/8th of an hour, it will get as close as possible to 3 hours, without actually taking 3 hours.

I have no idea about the first one but the second problem with the cards is 2400sec. or 40min. depending on how you want it answered sorry I couldn't help more. GOOD LUCK!

dunno. i could figure it out, but i have enough pain-in-the-butt-homework as it is. i hate algebra.
