if you have to ask what one is, you don't know any, and it would be neither complement, or insult.

that would depend on who is saying the comment. 'prep' is taken from prep school, meaning a place to prepare you for college. it's generally a private (expensive) school for those who intend to go far. they're not so common these days, these days the word is used to describe a certain section of teens. it's no more an insult than is 'goth' or 'emo', or 'punk'. the prep look is generally a polo or button down shirt, nice-ish pants, and not too crazy hair, for guys. for girls these days it's often a short skirt, a nice t-shirt with some sort of sweater, and non-tennis/sneaker style shoes. that's anything from high heels to boots.

Do you play tennis and wear your collar up? Do you drive Daddy's mercedes? Do you eat sushi and drink import beer at your high school parties? Then you are a prep. for girls these days it's often a short skirt, a nice t-shirt with some sort of sweater, and non-tennis/sneaker style shoes. that's anything from high heels to boots.
