I'm a freshman in high school (female) and I'm a little late on the extra curricular activites. I took volleyball (hated it) and now I'm taking drama club. Here's a list of the clubs and sports we have at my school:

Any suggestions from people with experience?

Try to pick a club where you just socialize with the other members as well as doing something you enjoy. Even better, just get together with some of your friends and make a club that involves something you and your friends like doing.

Do what you like. Try and get into leadership positions.

Still, just joining some clubs or playing some sports isn't enough to get into the really competitive colleges like Stanford. You've got to do something more impressive than simply being the president of the drama club. You've got to do something like start an acting troupe that gets invited around the state/country to perform. If you're just trying to get into a public school, say, Rutgers, than President of a club is fine.

It all depends on your interests, but I think sign language club sounds like fun. So does martial arts. I think who is in the club is just as important as the topic, though, so try a few out and see if you fit in well and if the students are friendly and active. You could also ask the advisors for each club about some of their activities. It's great to be involved, but don't stretch yourself too much and make sure it's doing something you like with people you like!

It all depends on your personal preferences. What sports/clubs are you interested in? I always wanted to do yearbook just because you get to capture moments in your school's history.. that always sounded fun to me. What ever you are interested in I would say do it. If you are looking to join clubs/sports because it will look good on your college application, only choose one or two. More than 3 makes you seem like you are just trying to impress. Go to the advisors of the clubs and see what the group is really about and ask them how you can benefit from joining. Ask if you can sit in on a club meeting and get a feel for the group. Good luck!!
