HOCKEY FANS!! Memories the United States defeating the Soviet Union in the 1980's Olympic Hockey match?

I remember watching this when I was around 11 years old. The entire day at school it was all anyone could talk about. It was mainly the excitement that was created by the tension between the USA and the USSR. I always felt to this day that it was the millions across America that projected hope to that team that made them win. Maybe it was because I was 11 or maybe it was because I was naive, but that was the greatest sports event ever and I'm not even a hockey fan. Please let me know how it made you feel.

I'm in Minnesota, and what many people don't remember about that win is that it was played earlier in the afternoon, and then broadcast on a tape delay on TV.

We had a school carnival, and as we played my parents were in the school kitchen listening to the game with a bunch of other people. They didn't say how we did the whole way home. I was allowed to stay up and watch the game, and still have the newspaper cover from the next day framed in my office.

It made me want to be a hockey player...which I ended up doing.

As a Canadian, I knew that this would really bring the USA into the hockey world. It was good for the game..I was jealous because I remember Canada beating the Russians in 72 when most people thought we were done..Worth being proud of...

Personally, I really didn't see what the big deal was. Canada and Russia has been going back and forth for a while and the US beats the Russians once out of thirty-plus times or however much they've played each other and all of a sudden, it's a movie.
