Cats often use kitten-type sounds to communicate with humans, since humans aren't very good at body language and hopeless when it comes to understanding scent messages. Cats learn this by experience.

I believe that is the noise they make when they are in heat. Its a type of mating call per say. They will do that to the male cats as well to get their attention. That noise also will cann their kittens and let them know that everything is OK - but if she is asking you to follow her then she is probably in heat.

Cats make that noises becasue they are in heat. Which means they are in season. You've probably noticed her putting her butt straight up in the air and pointing it in your direction, she's ready for that cat named Tom that lives on the streets. So unless you're ready for kittens, I suggest you keep her in until you get her fixed.
