Lol, so many different answers.....
If you are a normal person and build/buy a comp every 3 or 4 years or so then yes you can keep it on all the time and it is better to do so.

I do not.
I am always concerned that my computer will be accessible to the net if it stays on and that I will end up with a lot of viruses because sooner or later some nitwit hacker will spot it. I also think that the less time the hard drive is spinning the less chance I will have a failure so I am glad to shut it off quickly rather than waiting for a timeout. Similarly when the computer is on even in standby the power supply is on and the fan in it (which always tends to be a cheap vulnerable part) is spinning and getting ready to die from old age. I don't see the advantage to leaving it on.

well i think standby works fine. i think the most important thing is saving your monitor, so no matter what you do, make sure the monitor goes off because that will go bad before your comptuer in most cases. most computers nowadays can handle being left on for days, even months. but it is always good to turn it off once in a while to give it a break. its up to you really. if you dont use it that often, i would put it in standby.

If you are going to be away from the PC for extended periods of time, why not turn it off? Leaving it on puts more strain on the cooling fans unnecessarily. You computer will also function more efficiently if you shut it down from time to time to allow cache to clear. Not to mention the increased electric bill if you leave it running 24/7. My Mother-in-law and I have had this discussion before. She NEVER turns hers off, but my computers seem to last longer for some strange reason. HMMMMMM I wonder why that is???

If you have a bad computer (with a bad fan), it's definitely not wise to leave a computer on. It may fry the motherboard or even set fire. To know if your computer is good enough to leave on, make sure it has proper cooling (fan) and that the processing doesn't overheat.

Don't leave your computer on all the time. It could damage your system. You also shouldn't frequently turn your computer on and off. Wait at least 15-30 min in before turning on your computer again. I don't leave it on that long.

Yes. I do.... I just make sure the screen savers goes on aftyer 5 minutes....
My reason for keeping the computer on is that I have been told that turning off and on the computer hurts any parts that spin within the computer..... Such as your hard drive, fans, etc.... Add to the wear and tear on the system....

When left running the fans in the computer keep running and will eventually fail. Unless you're running a business or a server for others to access, it is a waste for your box to be left running. Are you having trouble at start up?

No, absolutely not. Leaving your computer on all the time increases the dust inside of it and can contribute to your computer overheating and breaking. By shutting it down, the computer cools and the processor and components rest and have time to reset themselves.

it's fine to leave it on if you are using decent hardware. i use nothing but WD Caviar and Seagate Baracuda hdd's and i leave my computers on 24/7
anyway standbay is not bad, but i recomend hybernation instead, as it uses no power (if you're gonna turn it off anyway, and dont want to go thru the boot process all the time). start, control panel, power options
